Job Description

Overview: To plan and implement a high-quality preschool program adhering to Preschool Promise guidelines, Oregon Office of Childcare regulations, and best practices in Early Childhood Education. A Lead Teacher will value and help to achieve the mission, and philosophy of Pioneer Relief Nursery. The Lead Teacher meets Oregon Office of Childcare requirements as a Lead Teacher and may act as Substitute Director in the absence of the designated Director. The Lead Teacher acts as a leader in the classroom, coordinating and working effectively with Teacher Assistants.

Qualifications:

 BA in Early Childhood Education or related field preferred; Associate degree in ECE or CDA with experience, or Step 7 on Oregon Registry required.

 Enrollment in Oregon Central Background Registry must be obtained prior to start date.

 Enroll in the Oregon Registry Online (ORO) to receive a Step Certificate (may be completed upon hire)

Current CPR, First Aid and Food Handler’s cards (can be obtained upon hire)

 Experience with home visiting and case management preferred.

Ability to complete specific training required by Preschool Promise and the Oregon Office of Childcare.

Valid Oregon Driver’s License and Insurance

Class Duties:

  • Plan and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum for Therapeutic Classroom for children ranging in age from 36 months through kindergarten using Creative Curriculum as foundation.
  • Engage parents in curriculum planning, explicitly focusing on responsiveness to diversity and cultural inclusion.
  • Implement Conscious Discipline evidence-based social and emotional practices.
  • Engage in thoughtful interactions with children to create a safe and therapeutic environment.
  • Complete ASQ and ASQ-SE questionnaires for children in class at appropriate intervals, engaging parents in the assessment process as appropriate
  • Create SMART goals for children related to their individual development and needs.
  • Ensure lesson plans reflect activities and accommodations that will meet the individual needs and goals of all children.
  • Document child goals and progress in a manner consistent with agency requirements
  • Maintain complete and secure client files, ensuring up-to-date enrollment paperwork as required by the Oregon Office of Childcare.
  • With a supervisor, plan developmentally appropriate, and curriculum specific field trips and presentations to enhance learning opportunities for children. Include hands-on learning opportunities as appropriate.
  • Ensure classroom documentation and practices meet Preschool Promise and the Oregon Office of Childcare requirements (Training will be provided by agency)
  • Document meal services as required by the Child and Adult Care Food Program (training will be provided)
  • Ensure classroom meets health and safety requirements (training will be provided)
  • Participate in training related to Mandatory Reporting of child abuse or neglect.
  • Make child abuse or neglect reports as necessary, including appropriate documentation, supervisors, and staff are available to assist in this process.

Family Engagement Duties:

  • Engage parents in conferences to provide child-related feedback and build secure connections and support.
    • Coordinate with supervisor and staff to provide needed services to families.
    • Facilitate necessary referrals and community connections with families.
    • Attend necessary community meetings and appointments as needed to coordinate holistic support for class families.
    • Remain responsive to family concerns and the impacts that these concerns may have on a child’s participation during class.
    • Encourage families to participate in Parent Connection Events and parenting education.

Professional Development and Agency Collaboration:

  • Participate in training as assigned by supervisor to meet Preschool Promise professional development requirements as well as personal, professional development goals. Travel to training may be required. Reimbursement or advance payment for travel related expenses will be included.
  • Participate in staff meetings with full agency staff to collaborate and develop a unified workplace.
  • Coordinated with Preschool Promise support staff, including supervisor and Teacher Assistants to engage all participants in lesson planning, goal setting, and program implementation.
  • Discuss concerns regarding families, children, or staff with a supervisor.
  • Engage in Reflective Supervision
  • Play an active role in the development of a personal Professional Development Plan

Supervisory Duties:

  • May act as a Substitute Director in the absence of the designated Director.
  • Participate in training specific to Director duties and qualifications.
  • Supervise Teacher Assistants during class time, ensuring compliance to all policies.
  • Direct and guide Teacher Assistants in the successful implementation of lesson plan, and curricula.
  • Guide staff and child interactions, ensuring appropriate practices and safety.

Salary: $20/hr. – $25/hr. – Based on Education/Experience

Schedule: Monday – Friday 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. Schedule may vary based on assigned duties.
